Frequently Asked Questions
How to model a minimum load level for a production unit
When you look in the report "Production, Graphical" and see a week like the one shown below, it is relevant to ask, if the Gas engine no. 2 will be running in an acceptable and economic manner at this very low load.

The figure above shows the production on Friday, June 6th in the night time Gas engine 2 will be running at a very low load, due to a low heat demand.

You may therefore wish to restrict the engine never to run below a certain minimum load. Choose Gas engine 2 in the "Energy Units" folder and you will get the following screen picture:

Now choose Add line in the Power curves and put in the minimum load.

By defining a minimum load for Gas engine 2, energyPRO will now automatically omit the engine in the subsequent calculations every time the program detects that the minimum load level for the engine has not been fulfilled.

In the report "Production, Graphical" the result of this restriction can now be viewed.

Due to the restrictions in minimum load of Gas engine 2, the boilers will now produce more of the heat demand in the same week.

Another approach could be to install a thermal store and only run the engines at full loads. The result of this action can be viewed below:

Importing time series from spreadsheet. Why are there fewer values in the energyPRO time series than in the original.
When importing data from spreadsheet energyPRO automatically removes duplicate values. This means that if two successive times has the same value then the latter is removed. The aim with this feature is to remove unnecessary data and thereby reduce the amount of stored data and to speed up calculations.

How to register energyPRO
To work with energyPRO you need to register. When buying energyPRO you will receive a registration file needed for the registration.
The registration process in energyPRO is as follows. Start energyPRO and choose the "Registration" in the Help menu.

The below window will appear and guide you through the registration.

You simply just need to follow the 3 steps and then click the button “Import registration file”

Default energyPRO ask you to insert the registration disk containing the file: energyPROx.x.erf  (where x.x is the version number). If you have saved the file elsewhere, just browse to find and open it. Click the “Open” button to register. The program will automatically ask you if you want to restart energyPRO now or later.  When having restarted the program, the registration will be accepted.

To check your registration, click the menu “Help|About”.

How to change the set-up in the graphic reports
It is possible to customize the settings for the graphic reports. Maybe you want to change some colours or maybe you want to make the lines wider.

Click on the picture to view it in full size

Graphic report to be changed. Double click on the chart to be able to change the set-up.

If you double click on the graphic, you got the opportunity to change the settings.

Changing the settings for the graphic.

Now you get access to the Editing window, which is a standard software tool incorporated in energyPRO. It is beyond the scope of this user’s guide to describe the facilities in details. Remark, in this version of energyPRO you can’t save your new settings and the graphic report will turn into default values again, when you save the project.

How to Save a report as a .pdf or .bmp file
A report can be saved in many different formats. If you would like to e-mail the report to someone, the .pdf - format (or Acrobat Reader format) will be appropriate. If you want to use the report in a document, the .jpg or .bmp format will be relevant.

In the Report Preview, you chose File and Save as.

Choose "File" and "Save as" in the Report Preview

In the field "Save as type", you can select the wanted format in the list.

Paste into a document
You can copy a report to the clipboard. In the report, preview window you chose edit and then copy. Open a document and chose paste.

Import data from a spreadsheet to a time series
To import data from a spreadsheet into a time series it is very important to use the same date and time format as energyPRO do. The format will depend on the settings on the particular computer.
The simplest way of doing it is to start from the time series in energyPRO and copy the format from here. Create a time series for e.g. the ambient temperature under External conditions. Key in a date and time in the first line.

Time series with one value specified

Open the spreadsheet to be used. In this example is used a spreadsheet with month, day and ambient temperature specified.

Use the buttons for copying and pasting the date and time from energyPRO into the spreadsheet.

The date and time from energyPRO is now copied into the spreadsheet.

Use this format for date and time to create new columns for the ambient temperature:

Columns with the correct date and time format is now created.

Now you can copy the columns into the time series in energyPRO:

How to copy energy conversion to Clipboard/Spreadsheet
By choosing "Tools" and  "Copy energy conversion to Clipboard" in the main menu, it is possible to copy data from the energy conversion of a project to the clipboard, and then pasting it into a spreadsheet.
There are two categories of export. The first category "As time series" is structured in columns each containing a part of the energy conversion for a production unit or eventually a demand. Each row contains the energy conversion for a specific period. The second option is an output structured as the report "Energy conversion, monthly".

Export to Clipboard window

As time series

If as time series is chosen then depending of the actual energyPRO module your are working with different resolution option will occur

As report "Energy Conversion, monthly"

If this option is chosen the data for, export to clipboard is structured as the report "Energy conversion, monthly". If the FINANCE or ACCOUNTS module is chosen it is optional to chose between monthly and yearly data resolution. The option is not available if the OPERATION module is chosen.
